General Info:
The National Trust Dalehead Bunkhouse is a renovated gritstone farmhouse on a working hill-farm at the remote head of Edale and has recently been refurbished (2010/2011). The superb location of this popular Bunkhouse is amongst the spectacular scenery of some of the highest hills in the Peak District; including Kinder Scout, Mam Tor and Burbage. There are no public roads and only one building nearby and so it is a lovely secluded and isolated place to stay.
The Bunkhouse is very spacious with a large education room, which is also used as a dining room. Heating is by electric storage heaters plus a wood burner in the sitting room. The endless supply of logs ensure that this is a very warm and welcoming place to relax.
The well equipped kitchen has a superb six-ring gas hob and an enormous gas oven. There are plenty of cooking utensils and everything is very clean and well looked after. The large number of work surfaces in the kitchen ensures that catering for large numbers is very easy. Upstairs there are three dormitories with comfortable wooden bunk beds. In total there are beds for twenty people; these include seven bunk beds (14 people) and 6 standard beds which can be used as singles or put together to make double beds depending on the requirements. There are also brand new toilet and bathroom facilities. One bathroom is downstairs and one is upstairs with washbasins and one electric heated shower in each.
The location of this bunkhouse makes this a very special place to stay. A stream runs past the back and sheep graze all around in the adjacent fields. The views are stunning all around and show the Dark Peak at its very best.
The dazzling and diverse scenery of the Peak District and Derbyshire makes it a paradise for walking, family cycling, mountain biking and adventure sports such as caving, rock climbing, hang gliding and paragliding, but there's also plenty to do for those with a more relaxed approach to nature and the great outdoors
