The little hamlet of Sparrowpit is set high on the Derbyshire hills between Chapel en le Frith and Peak Forest in the High Peak area. It makes a great place in which to rent one of the self catering holiday cottages from where there are great Peak District walks and local sights. The hamlet derives its name not from sparrows but from the fluor spa that was mined there ‘spar row pit’. Nearby there are the three caverns – Speedwell, Peak and Treak Cliff Cavern, all of which have some spectacular rock formations. At Chapel en le Frith you can visit the Chestnut Centre where there are a number of rescued otters, owls and wild cats. Sparrowpit has a pub called the Wanted Inn where you can meet the locals and get some refreshment during your stay in one of the self catering holiday cottages in the area.
