Description
Rookery Cottage is an attractive period cottage, located in the charming village of Ashford in the Water, 5 minutes from Bakewell and 10 minutes from Chatsworth. The cottage is situated in the grounds of The Rookery, with its own private garden on the banks of the River Wye (the river has been fenced for the security of younger visitors), providing ample space for children to play in.
The cottage is peaceful and secluded, offering every opportunity to relax in the grounds, or providing an excellent base from which to go out and explore the Peak District. Fishing is available on request.
Originally built as the livery accommodation for the stables at The Rookery, the cottage comfortably sleeps 6 adults, or 6 adults and an additional child in a cot or put- up bed. The main bedroom has an en-suite bathroom and a bay window offers a peaceful view out over the garden and the river. The bedrooms have all been furnished to the highest quality; we believe that a good night's sleep in a comfortable bed is essential to ensuring the success of a holiday! 100% cotton linen, fluffy towels and additional blankets for cold nights are standard; anti-allergy pillows and duvets are available on request.
The cottage has a large sitting room, with plenty of space to relax in front of the log fire.
There is a DVD player and an ipod / iphone dock as well as a radio CD player, and wireless broadband is available. We have provided a selection of books about the area, which are there for our guests to browse.
There is a separate dining room which comfortably seats 8 people, as well as an outside eating area. A barbeque is available for guest use. The kitchen is fitted with an electric oven and microwave, an electric and gas hob, and a dishwasher. Basic food items and household essentials are included, and we can provide food hampers on request. The cottage also has a clothes washing machine and freezer, useful for guests who are planning a longer stay.
At the back of the cottage there is a small conservatory, which is appealing in the darker winter months.
Please note that in the interest of all our guests, pets are not allowed.
The centre of Ashford in the Water is a five minute walk from the cottage.
Here there are two pubs, both serving good food, although different in style; The Bulls Head offers a gastro pub experience and The Ashford Arms is more traditional. There is also a tea room and post office in the village, and an excellent village shop, Ibbotson's, which stocks a wide variety of food, from delicatessen items to household essentials.
Ashford in the Water is ideally suited for walkers and cyclists, with a large selection of trails and walks nearby. It is also close to Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and Eyam Hall, making it the ideal base for a holiday exploring the Peak District.
